Belgian TV presenter and singer Yasmine has passed away

Yesterday it was announced that Belgian TV presenter and singer Yasmine has passed away at age 37. She ended her own life.

Yasmine, who was born as Hilde Rens on 3 March 1972, was a well-known figure in Belgium, having hosted many popular TV programs like De Rode Loper (The red carpet) and Zo is er maar één (There’s no one like it). She also had a very successful music career.

She started her career as a singer in 1991 when she released her debut CD Mooi zo. Some of her hit songs include Vraag me niet waarom (Don’t ask me why) and Porcelein (Porceline). In total she released nine studio albums. More recently she went on a theatre tour through Belgium singing translations of Leonard Cohen songs.

2009 wasn’t a very good year for Yasmine. In April eurOut reported that her marriage with Marianne Dupon had come to an end and they were getting a divorce. They were in a relationship for 8 years and had a daughter together Ella-Louise who was born in 2007. The news of their separation caused quite a steer, because in 2003 they had been the first lesbian celebrity couple to get officially married in Belgium.
